Love in the Selfie Era. Is it Love? Is it Performative?
The mixed media in this work, her face and her phone are both printed photographs raised above the canvas on foam board, asks the question of what's "real", the paint? The printed photos? The glitter?
And the background, a collage of Photo Booth photos from a different era, shows us where it all began: Photo Booths were the first universally available "Selfies". But any innocence from that long ago age seems lost in the superficiality and branding of today's online social whirl.
Finally, the use of the iconic Pop Art sculpture, Robert Indiana's "Love", takes us back to the first time Art confronted the commercialization of human emotion.
